چکیده
Fixed-Priority Scheduling with Deferred Preemption (FPDS) is a middle ground between Fixed-Priority Preemptive Scheduling and Fixed-Priority Non-preemptive Scheduling, and offers advantages with respect to context switch overhead and resource access control. In this paper we present our work on extending the realtime operating system RTAI/Linux with support for FPDS. We give an overview of possible alternatives, describe our design choices and implementation, and verify through a series of measurements that indicate that a FPDS implementation in a real-world RTOS is feasible with minimal overhead.

Quest-V is a new system currently under development for multicore processors. It comprises a collection of separate kernels operating together as a distributed system on a chip. Each kernel is isolated from others using virtualization techniques, so that faults do not propagate throughout the entire system. This multikernel design supports online fault recovery of compromised or misbehaving ser...

RelaX offers an extensible transaction facility which isolates distributed (thus complex) transaction processing. A distributed system providing basic support for local recovery may easily be enhanced with flexible transaction functionality by linking it to the RelaX facility. The work desribed is being carried out in conjunction with the European ESPRIT Comandos project. In the Comandos platfo...
